DONORS TO TEAM UP FOR CRITICAL NEEDS

04-23-2007

Palm Beach Gardens In an effort to encourage individuals to take an active part in assisting families in desperate need, the Palm Beach Virtual Warehouse has added Food Baskets and Baby Baskets to the Wish List.

Families are finding that local food banks are diminishing as there has been a greater demand placed on resources since the storms of 2004 and 2005. Many families have still not moved back into new dwellings, although today was the date that all FEMA trailers had to either be purchased or vacated, post hurricane Wilma.

Donors are being asked to created food boxes that will feed a family of up to four for a period of one week. Suggested food items include cereals, juices, breakfast bars, pastas, rice, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats, one box meals, macaroni and cheese, flour, sugar and dried milk.

For mothers-to-be and for families with babies, boxes or baskets of baby items, diapers, wipes, shampoo, t-shirts, socks, sleepwear, blankets, etc are needed. Additionally, food boxes with baby cereal, jarred foods, juices, feeding spoon, 2 bibs, wipes, etc. are encouraged. As referrals come in, the donor or donor group will be contacted and may choose to deliver these items personally or have them picked up and delivered by the referrral source.

Canned formula and baby diapers are items high on the wish list.
